Bageshri Raag

Bageshri is a Hindustani classical raag and also very popular in Carnatic music.

It said that raag Bageshri was first sung by Miyan Tansen, the celebrated court singer of Emperor Akbar. It is traditionally performed late at night, which portrays the emotion of a woman who waits for her homecoming lover.

Raag Bageshri belongs to Kaafi Thaat. Its vadi swar is Ma, and the samvadi swar is Sa. This raga highlights and emphasizes Ma Swara. Rishabh(Re) and Pancham(Pa) are Varjya in Aaroh, which makes it Audhav-Sampurna. 

Bageshree is one of the most sensuous and romantic raag among all the night raags. Bageshri raag has many other names also like Bagesari, Bageshwari, Vageshwari, etc. This is one of the most favorite raag among musicians and listeners.

This Raag is suitable for both types of Shringars namely Virah and Karuna. It is a melody that pleases in isolation and is effective in emotional expression.

C. Ramchandra, the famous Hindi music director loved composing songs in Bageshri, as he found it simple.
